Classrooms - Installing Smart Board Software

  1. Install the Smart Board drivers and possibly Smart Notebook software on your computer.

  2. Turn the Smart Board on using the left hand button on the keyboard tray.

  3. Connect the USB cable on the Smart Board to your computer. The connect light on the keyboard needs to change from blinking red, to blinking green and eventually to solid green.

  4. Once the connection light on the Smart Board tray is solid green, press the calibration button on the Smart Board try to calibrate your computer to the Smart Board.

DOWNLOAD THE SMART BOARD DRIVERS & SMART NOTEBOOK SOFTWARE
  • Open a Web Browser.

  • Go to Smarttech.

  • Select the Support Tab (#1).

  • Next select Software downloads.

DOWNLOADING SMART NOTEBOOK SOFTWARE
  • Select Choose a version under the heading SMART Notebook collaborative learning software.

  • From the menu, choose your platform.

  • Select the blue Download button, to start the download.

  • Note: any additional software listed on the download page is optional.

INSTALL THE SMART NOTEBOOK SOFTWARE
  • Locate the installer that you downloaded, typically it will be named "smartesiYYYYxxxxxx", where Y represents the Year, and x is the name of the month. For example, smartesi2013june.dmg or smartesi2013junewebinstaller.exe.

  • On the Macintosh, open the disk image, and run the installer, and follow the Installing on a Macintosh System instructions below.

  • On the Windows platform, run the installer, and follow the Installing on a Windows System instructions below.

INSTALLING ON A MACINTOSH SYSTEM
  • Do not enable the Customer Experience Program, please ensure this is unchecked.
  • Do not install SMART Notebook 3D Tools.

  • Do not install SMART Response Tools.

  • During the install process you may receive a pop-up indicating that "SMARTBoardService.app" needs to accept incoming network connections. Select Allow.

  • Once the software is done installing on the Macintosh, start the Notebook Application.

  • From the Applications folder, open the Smart Technologies folder, run Notebook.

  • Note: the software can now be used, but certain features may be restricted to registered installations. To register your software by acquiring and entering the product key, please contact your desktop specialist, Classroom Technology or the IT Help Desk, to provide you with the product key.

  • After acquiring the product key, open the Software Activation panel.

  • Select Notebook from the menu (#1).

  • Then select Software Activation (#2).

  • Next to Product Key (#1), type in the product key.

  • Select the Add button (#2).

  • Select the Next (#3) button. The activation tool, will connect to the Smart Technologies Server and verify the key.

  • Once done, the key should be listed with a status of "Activated".

INSTALLING ON A WINDOWS SYSTEM
  • Check the Smart Notebook checkbox (#1).

  • The Smart Product Drivers checkbox should automatically be selected as well. Please ensure that it is checked. (#2).

  • Select the Next (#3) button.

  • You may receive a warning that the software will install a newer version of Adobe Flash. If you see this warning, continue, but ensure all web browsers are closed.

  • (Optional, but recommended) On Select Startup Options, turn off Smart Board Tools. This will prevent the Smart Board Tools from starting up when not connected to a Smart Board.

  • Select the Next button.

  • Ensure that Make Smart Ink Document View the default PDF Viewer is turned off.

  • Select the Next button.

  • On Customer Experience Program, we recommend that you disable the Customer Experience Program.

  • Select the Next button

  • The Gallery Collections are optional, you may customize and remove any galleries and toolkits on this page.

  • Select the Next button.

  • Select any languages that you wish to add.

  • Select the Next button.

  • Select Install.

  • Note: When the software is done installing it can now be used, but certain features may be restricted to registered installations. To register your software by acquiring and entering the product key, please contact your desktop specialist, Classroom Technology or the IT Help Desk, to provide you with the product key.

  • After acquiring the product key select the checkbox for Activate my Products Now (#1), and select the Finish button (#2).

  • Under Product Key, type in the Product Key:

  • Select the Add button (#2).

  • Select the Next button (#3). The activation tool, will connect to the Smart Technologies Server and verify the key.

  • Once done, the key should be listed with a status of Activated.
