Fall Schedule

We look forward to welcoming you to campus in August! Fall Welcome Week is required for all incoming students, regardless of whether they are living on or off-campus, and highly encouraged for parents and family members.

Registration

Registration is required for all family members attending Fall Welcome Week. Your student is required to complete the Welcome Week registration form by Friday, July 29 at the latest, and will be asked to add you and any other guests planning to attend Welcome Week events to the bottom of their registration form.

The Welcome Week app allows you to find a full listing of Fall Welcome Week events and create your own schedule. The app also features virtual and campus resources, recommendations and tips from your student's Orientation Leaders, and arrival information.

Dates

The student Fall 2022 Welcome Week program runs from their assigned arrival day (view first-year and transfer arrival dates) through Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

Events for parents and families during Fall 2022 Welcome Week will take place on the following dates:

  • Monday, August 22, 2022: events for international families begin
  • Tuesday, August 23, 2022: events continue for all incoming families
  • Wednesday, August 24, 2022: events for all incoming families end in the late afternoon

For families of student athletes: Assigned arrival days for some fall athletes will be earlier than the dates listed above. Your student athlete should check with their coach to get their assigned arrival date and time. All parents and families of athletes are welcome to return to campus to participate in family Welcome Week events on Tuesday, August 23 and Wednesday, August 24.

Take a break and have a seat! This space, reserved especially for parents and families, will feature ample seating, snacks, beverages, and friendly faces to help you feel refreshed throughout arrival and move-in day.
10 a.m.–8 p.m.International and Transfer Student Check-In & Move-In
This will be your first stop on campus! This is where your student will pick up their campus ID card, welcome bag, Welcome Week wristband, and mailbox key (and their room key if they are living on-campus). They will also complete their required check-in with the International Services Office, and representatives from campus health services, as well as local cell phone companies and banks, will be on-hand to answer questions and provide information.

Make sure to stop by the Parent and Family Check-In area to pick up your own welcome bag (maximum of one per family). Use the buttons below to view specific instructions for international first-year students and transfer students.

Once you make your way to Welcome Week Check-In, make sure to stop by the Parent and Family Check-In area to pick up your own welcome bag (maximum of one per family).

Please note: Move-in for first-year domestic students driving to campus ends at 4 p.m., however Welcome Week Check-In will remain open until 6 p.m.

Is your student's new dorm looking a little barren? Bring some life to their room with the perfect piece of greenery from the Plant Sale, hosted by Wilson Commons Student Activities. Prices range from $5 to $30 USD.
11 a.m.–3:30 p.m.Lunch (On-Campus Dining Locations)

Please note: All international students are required to attend the International Student and Family Welcome Celebration from 6-7 p.m., and all first-year students living on campus must be back on campus for their required residence hall meeting by 9 p.m.

8–9 a.m.Parent and Family Q&A with Deans and Directors
Join University leaders learn more about the resources available to both your student and your family. After an introduction from the University deans and directors listed below, you’ll have the chance to ask questions.

9:30–11 a.m.
Convocation and Signing of the Class Roll
Convocation signals the start of your student's academic career at the University. It provides the opportunity for President Mangelsdorf, Dean of Students Matthew Burns, Dean of the College Jeffrey Runner, and the rest of the faculty and staff to formally welcome your student to the College.

First-year students will sign their class roll immediately following the ceremony, while transfer students will have the opportunity to sign their class rolls at the Transfer Student Welcome Dinner on Wednesday evening.

Join your student to explore resources and student services from across campus at this beloved Welcome Week event. Representatives from various University offices and centers will be available to answer your questions and help your student feel informed as they begin their first semester.

After 4 p.m., you should say goodbye to your student and head home or further explore the greater Rochester area. Your student has an exciting evening of activities to attend!


Directions & Parking

Please follow your student's arrival instructions for parking directions on Monday, August 22 and Tuesday, August 23. On Wednesday, August 24, you can park in Intercampus Drive Lot if you are driving to campus for Convocation, Welcome Week Expo, or other family events.

If Intercampus Drive Lot is full, you can park in Zone 3 South Lot. The University's Silver Line shuttle will be running from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. to take you from Zone 3 South Lot to Rush Rhees Library, and then back out to your vehicle once you are ready to head home.
