Commission on Women and Gender Equity in Academia
A National Convocation for Leaders in Academia on Preventing Sexual Harassment
November 9, 2018, 8:15 – 11:30 AM
The Commission on Women and Gender Equity in Academia
Dewey 2-110D, River Campus
University of Rochester
The persistence of sexual harassment and its adverse impact on women’s careers in our nation’s colleges and universities is jeopardizing more rapid and sustained progress in closing the “gender gap” in science, engineering, and medicine. On November 9, 2018, join colleagues, leaders in academia, and other experts in building on the recent report Sexual Harassment of Women: Climate, Culture, and Consequences in Academic Science, Engineering, and Medicine, to develop and strategize plans on how to prevent sexual harassment in academia. Join the Commission on Women and Gender Equity in Academia for an in-person viewing part of a webcast of this national event sponsored by The National Academy of Sciences. To foster discussion, we will be joined by several members of the university community to hear about efforts here at the University of Rochester, including the following:
Richard Crummins, Associate Vice President for Equal Opportunity (interim)
Margaret Kearney, Associate Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion (interim)
Morgan Levy, Title IX Coordinator and Director of University Student Services Coordination
Beth Olivares, Dean for Diversity in Arts, Sciences and Engineering
Chunkit Fung, Co-chair of the Faculty Senate
This will be an interactive discussion, with plenty of opportunity for you to share concerns, ask questions and provide feedback to the Commission and the administration on this topic.
If you can’t join us in person, you may register to attend the webcast on your own, and share your thoughts through our web portal. A parallel webcast of the entire event from the National Academies will be hosted by the Medical Center Faculty Council at the Medical Center in the Class of ’62 Auditorium from 8:15 – 12:00.
