News and Announcements

Mark your calendar for this year’s staff retreat: Come join your AS&E colleagues for this year’s staff retreat on Wednesday, June 7, on the River Campus. There will be a variety of workshops, including a session with Provost David Figlio, a tutorial on using Excel, and an opportunity to have a professional headshot taken. The day will be full of opportunities to connect and learn with your peers. Please note that all sessions require advance registration and some sessions have limited capacity so register early!  Registration will remain open through June 1. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Learn about AS&E’s distinguished faculty: Professorships recognize academics who have significantly contributed to scholarship and research, teaching, and service to the University or the broader community. An endowed chair or distinguished professorship is the highest academic award that the University of Rochester bestows on a faculty member. We are proud to now showcase all of the accomplishments of our distinguished professors on a new page on the AS&E website that launched this week.

Career support for 2023 graduates still seeking employment: Advisors in the Greene Center are available to support any Class of 2023 students still seeking opportunities after graduation. If you know of a student still weighing options, just getting started thinking about their life after college, or looking for opportunities, please connect them with the Greene Center and advise them to fill out the First Destination Survey. The Greene Center will match them to a career advisor for personalized assistance throughout the summer until they land an opportunity.

Travel resources through the Office for Global Engagement: As summer approaches, the Office for Global Engagement reminds faculty, staff, and students of important international travel and security resources. Registering with the office well before departure is a smart start, providing critical partnership while abroad. Click here to get started.

Education abroad summer enrollments: The Center for Education Abroad is excited to share that about 160 students will study abroad this summer in 20 different countries, including a variety of faculty-led programs.

Volunteer for Fall 2023 welcome week: Welcoming new students and families to campus in August is a huge team effort—and the Orientation Team needs your help! From staffing check-in to greeting parents and families, there are a ton of opportunities to connect with the newest members of the Yellowjacket family in their first days at Rochester. Learn more and raise your hand to volunteer by Friday, June 2, at the latest. If you have any questions, please contact orientation@rochester.edu.

Nominate a Colleague for an ACE Award: The University community is invited to nominate AS&E staff members who exemplify the University’s vision and values and go above and beyond their job to make AS&E and the University ever better. Successful nominations will highlight specific examples of tasks, projects, or activities where staff are exceeding their core functions. Staff can be nominated more than once and winners will be chosen on the first of each month by Joan Saab, interim dean of the faculty.
