In celebration of Pride Month, the School of Medicine and Dentistry’s Office of Equity and Inclusion is hosting a free documentary screening at the Little Theatre on Saturday
The parking permit renewal season is upon us, and all current University parking permits will expire on Wednesday, June 30. If you canceled your permit last year, or if you did not enroll in auto-renewal and would like to purchase a permit, go to My Parking Online and log in with your NetID and password. From there, select “Get Permits.” Parking permit rates remain unchanged for the second year in a row. If you have questions or need assistance, visit the Department of Transportation and Parking Management website or call (585) 275-4524.
New leadership at the Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence
Following a national search earlier this year, Gwen Olton ’04 will begin as interim executive director of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence on July 1. Olton is the current director of training and education at the institute.
Beth Greenwood ’22 is one of a handful of women playing baseball at the collegiate level. “Everyone is going to look at you, whether you like it or not,” she says. “You feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders and sometimes when you’re playing you feel like you’re playing for all of the girls and women in baseball. It can be hard to separate that and remember that you’re just a baseball player like anyone else. But having all of those eyes on you is a privilege. It is a privilege to be here and have these opportunities because I didn’t know this was possible when I was younger.”
If you are teaching or supporting student learning on the River Campus, you can now apply for a River Campus Libraries grant to support the development and implementation of open educational resources and open pedagogy. Applications will be accepted until funding is exhausted. Examples of qualifying projects include creating open education texts and relicensing existing teaching content to be openly licensed. Celebrate big steps in Rochester's LGBTQ+ history at The Little Theatre
To celebrate Pride Month, the School of Medicine and Dentistry’s Office of Equity and Inclusion is hosting a free screening of Shoulders to Stand On at the Little Theatre at 3 p.m. EDT on Saturday, June 26. Beginning with a small group of students and the formation of the Gay Liberation Front at the University, the documentary explores a largely unknown and undocumented history of Rochester’s LGBTQ+ community and its influences across the nation. Audiences are engaged through personal stories, a journey that celebrates New York’s oldest gay newspaper, the first openly gay candidate elected to public office in New York, a fight for federal funding, the first city in New York to pass a domestic partnership policy, and more recently the passage of same-sex marriage in New York.
Free admission days at the Memorial Art Gallery
In partnership with the Farash Foundation, the Memorial Art Gallery is offering free admission days on Sunday, June 27, and Thursday, July 8. Find more information and reserve your timed tickets here. The museum and Brown Hound Downtown will be closed on Sunday, July 4.
Carillon summer concert series
The Hopeman Memorial Carillon Summer Concert Series returns to the River Campus beginning Wednesday, July 7, and continues each Wednesday through August 4. The free outdoor concerts on the Eastman Quadrangle are open to the public; all programs begin at 6:30 p.m. EDT, rain or shine, and last about an hour. Attendees are welcome to bring folding chairs, blankets, snacks, or picnics, and relax on the lawn of the Eastman Quadrangle to enjoy the carillon performance. The performers are available to greet the audience on the steps of Rush Rhees Library 15 minutes after the completion of the program.
