Laser Lab’s pulsed laser research gets boost from federal funding
The University’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) has been awarded a $14.9 million contract with the US Department of Defense (DOD) to study pulsed-laser effects. In addition to supporting the LLE’s scientific mission, the funding—which approximately doubles the annual funding the University has received from the DOD in recent years—will aid in advancing technology and developing a pipeline of talent to support the broad use of laser-based, directed-energy systems.

To enhance merchant card servicing, the Office of Treasury Management has collaborated with Arrow Payments to provide payment processing services. If your department or organization (student clubs, study abroad programs, health clinics) accepts payment cards, visit the office’s website by August 25 to complete a new survey that will assist the office in enhancing service improvements for merchant card processing at the University. Your feedback is invaluable in achieving the goal of providing better services for merchants. The website also contains updated information about how Arrow Payments can assist your department. Free to the University community, LabArchives for Education is a tool—featuring an electronic lab notebook—built for teaching lab courses. On Thursday, August 17, the University of Rochester Libraries will host a webinar that will teach the basic skills you need to introduce students to modern scientific workflows that promote best practices while giving them hands-on experience that teaches real-world skills.
