Leah Hill, a senior chemical dependency counselor at Strong Recovery, UR Medicine’s longstanding service to promote recovery from substance use and mental health disorders, says that parents can play a key role in preventing the next tragedy—but only if they’re willing to hear some difficult truths.

Trying to figure out when a virus will peak is a guessing game, says David Topham, the Marie Curran Wilson and Joseph Chamberlain Wilson Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. While respiratory viruses often pick up in the fall and peak in the winter, in recent years the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the usual patterns. RSV and influenza activity started earlier than usual last year. “COVID-19 has really thrown everything into turmoil,” says Topham.
Engineering and tech P2P internship fair and panel
Hajim School students: Are you interested in securing a summer internship or curious to learn more about the process? On Thursday, September 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Feldman Ballroom, Douglass Commons, learn from current Rochester students about their internship experiences, search process, job functions, and what your next steps should be in securing your own summer internship. Walk and unwind
On Wednesdays, October 4 and 25 at 5 p.m., take a one-hour walk to help you unwind and experience the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of autumn at Rochester. Your mindful guide will use a series of short activities and breathing exercises to help awaken the senses and ease into the present moment. It is not a long-distance walk. Comfortable shoes and an appropriate outdoor coat for the weather are all you need. Open to all undergraduate and graduate students. Registration is required.

Applications open for 2023 Del Monte Institute Pilot Program
Apply today for the 2023 Del Monte Pilot Program. Up to 16 novel basic, clinical, and translational projects in the neurosciences will be supported with a maximum budget of $50,000 per award. Faculty members are encouraged to apply by Wednesday, November 1.

Updated hours for public tours at MAG
Take a public tour and explore 5,000 years of world art in the Memorial Art Gallery’s collection and temporary exhibitions. Upon arrival, let the Admission Desk know that you wish to join the tour. Public tours are approximately 60 minutes and are included in museum admission, which is free for faculty, staff, and students with their University ID. For September through June, tour times are Thursdays at 6:45 p.m., Fridays at 11:15 a.m., and Sundays at 12:30 p.m.
