Quality improvement methods for pain management lead to better outcomes in the NICU
A new study coauthored by Jeffrey Meyers, an associate professor of pediatrics and associate chief quality officer at Golisano Children’s Hospital, shows that a quality improvement initiative to standardize care for babies in the NICU following surgery at the Medical Center correlated with fewer unplanned intubations and improved mortality rates.

Declining Dollars has been renamed to Dining Dollars, and the campus currency URos is now called Rocky Bucks–which will now be accepted by a larger network of dining, grocery, food, and other retailers on campus and in College Town. Register for the Faculty/Staff Accessibility Ambassador Project
The Office of Disability Resources is continuing its Faculty/Staff Accessibility Ambassador Project to provide training to successive cohorts of faculty and staff, enabling them to serve as ambassadors and resources to their programs and departments on issues related to disability, accessibility, and Universal Design for Learning. Participants will receive training in Universal Design for Learning from CAST, Inc. in summer or fall 2024. Further training will be provided by the Office of Disability Resources on disability, accommodations, and accessibility issues. Register here.

Have you recently had a qualifying life event?
If you’ve had a qualifying life event, you may qualify to apply for the Child Care Subsidy. New hires and those with a qualifying life event can apply outside the annual application period defined for the Dependent Care FSA. New hires have 30 days post-hire to submit a child care subsidy application, and those with a qualifying life event have 60 days to submit. Visit the family care web page on the HR website for more information and eligibility.
Summer applications for tuition reimbursement
The summer semester is quickly approaching. If you are attending an outside college or university, submit your tuition reimbursement application within 30 days of the start of the course. Visit the tuition benefits website to download the application and learn more.
Digital Media Studies and the Art and Music Library present “Breaking Boundaries with Video Games 2024” on Friday, April 26, from noon to 4 p.m. in Evans Lam Square, Rush Rhees Library. It is an annual showcase of undergraduate research, writing, design, and multimodal scholarship involving video games at the University. Meet the growing community of Rochester’s game designers and scholars as they discuss their work. Pizza and snacks will be provided.
Rochester graduate student advances to finals of regional 3MT competition
The Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Office shares that the University’s 2023 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) winner, Quintina Campbell, has advanced to the final stage of the regional 3MT competition, held by the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools. Tune into the virtual competition on Friday, April 26, from 3 to 5 p.m. The audience will also be choosing the People’s Choice winner.
Studio X showcase
Ever wonder what goes on in Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X? Head there on Wednesday, May 1, for some answers. From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., students and staff will deliver a series of lightning talks and presentations on extended reality projects, like a virtual alchemical lab and Studio Xplorer. Light refreshments will be provided.
Submit a proposal for the 2024 Boundless Together Diversity Conference
Presenter proposals are being accepted for 2024 Boundless Together: How Do We Move Forward When We Disagree? to be held on October 15. The annual diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice conference invites leaders, students, educators, and social justice advocates from the University, Greater Rochester community, and beyond to discuss civil discourse, restorative practices, and sustainable compliance. Proposal submissions are due June 14.
