SECURITY TIP

Are you familiar with the Data Security Classifications Policy?

University employees often have access to sensitive information. It’s important that you familiarize yourself with the Data Security Classifications Policy and understand the difference between high-, moderate-, and low-risk information to ensure you responsibly handle confidential data and prevent security breaches or HIPAA violations. If you have a question on data classifications, contact your sector’s information security officer: Mark Baker for research and education or Jim Purvis for clinical and administrative or the Office of Counsel.


FOR STUDENTS

Workshop on classroom strategies for graduate students and postdocs

The Teaching Center invites all graduate students and postdocs to join the workshop “Are My Students Getting It?: Simple Classroom Strategies” on Wednesday, July 24, from 1 to 2 p.m. on Zoom. The workshop is for those interested in further developing their teaching and introduces simple, real-time strategies that you can use in the classroom to know what students have learned and if they are grasping the content. Nominations open for Genesee Staff Council representatives

Nominations are open for district representatives of the Genesee Staff Council. The council discusses issues important to University staff and shares perspectives with senior administration. Serving on the council is open to full-time and part-time staff in the districts listed here. Nominate yourself or a staff member by August 2. Voting will take place August 12–26. Each participating University division has an allocated number of representatives; refer to the council website for details. Email Gsc@rochester.edu with questions.

Summer Applied Genomics Seminar

The summer applied genomics seminar is a weekly venue on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. in Wegmans Hall, Room 1005, to learn and engage in applied problems in genomics. The seminar series will include short presentations from students, trainees, and faculty on current research problems with an emphasis on pragmatic solutions. Presentations will be followed by a discussion to enhance practical understanding and assessment of genomics approaches, methods, and computational analyses. The seminar series is run as part of the Goergen Institute for Data Science MS program in applied genomics and is open to students and faculty interested in the application of genomics and genome technologies to problems in biology.

Bruster’s Ice Cream fundraiser by Friends of Strong

Purchase a two-scoop dish of ice cream on Wednesday, August 7, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and a portion of the sales will be donated to Friends of Strong in support of patient- and family-centered care. The Bruster’s Ice Cream truck will be in front of Golisano Children’s Hospital on Crittenden Boulevard with 10 flavors to choose from—including a gluten-free, a vegan, and a fat-free, no-sugar-added option. Advance tickets are recommended and available at the hospital gift shop from now until the end of the event. Bring all 312 requisitions to the Friends of Strong office (1-1230) by 4 p.m. on August 6. Register for August sessions in the Department of Psychiatry’s Summer Brown Bag Series

Registration is now open for the August sessions of the Department of Psychiatry’s 2024 Summer Brown Bag Series. Join speakers every Wednesday starting at noon throughout the summer to learn about inequities surrounding our communities through a diverse lens. CEU and CMEs are available. Register to attend in person or virtually.
