Liver transplant outperforms other therapies for colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver

Colorectal cancer often spreads to the liver, and for some patients, surgical removal of their liver tumors is not an option. A new study led by researchers at the Wilmot Cancer Institute and the Medical Center shows that a select group of patients with colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver tend to fare better if they receive a liver transplant as opposed to other common therapies.

New University Leave of Absence and Withdrawal Policy training

This training will provide detailed instructions for the newly approved Leave of Absence and Withdrawal Policy across all campuses and schools, effective in the fall 2024 semester. Open to academic advisors, faculty, program coordinators, or administrators working with students who may express the need or want to take a leave of absence or withdraw from the University. Mindful Professor Training Program

Join the Mindful Professor Training this fall and transform your teaching approach with mindfulness. With over 30 current graduates, the program is based on cutting-edge research and offers teaching faculty and course instructors tools to cultivate calm, presence, and mindful leadership skills. Participants will enhance their well-being and teaching effectiveness and learn strategies to support student academic flourishing and well-being. Held on select Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. beginning on September 4. Open and free to all University student-facing faculty and course instructors. Register now to secure your spot.

Child Care Subsidy applications now accepted

Applications are being accepted through August 26 for the 2025 Child Care Subsidy. The University launched the Child Care Subsidy Program to assist eligible faculty and staff with child care expenses by providing awards of up to $3,600 a year, depending on total household gross income, through the Dependent Care FSA. Please note that if you received the subsidy in 2024 you must reapply for it for 2025. General Pediatrics and Primary Care Fellowship

The Division of General Pediatrics is accepting applications to its Primary Care Research Fellowship, a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship for MD/DOs, PhDs, PsyDs, and others holding doctoral degrees in health professions. Weekly seminars offer instruction on research, health disparities, leadership, education, career development, and scientific writing. 4th annual ‘Run and Walk FASD’ 5K and picnic

A partnership between Mt. Hope Family Center and Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, the 3rd annual “Run and Walk FASD” 5K and picnic takes place on Sunday, September 8, at Northampton Park from noon to 3 p.m. The event brings awareness and helps decrease the stigma of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.
