Rochester-based Saunders Foundation makes $30 million commitment to the Medical Center

The Saunders Foundation, led by University Trustee Emeritus E. Philip Saunders, has made a $30 million commitment to the Medical Center to support novel research and clinical programs in orthopaedics, faculty in the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and nursing students. In recognition of the long-standing philanthropic support from Saunders, the University will name its facility at 10 Miracle Mile Drive as the Saunders Center for Orthopaedics & Physical Performance. Anne-Marie Algier named dean of students, associate vice president for university student life

Anne-Marie Algier ’16W (EdD) has been named the University’s associate vice president for university student life and dean of students, a role she has served on an interim basis since 2023. Algier will provide leadership and strategic direction for a broad range of student service and support programs, including Wilson Common Student Activities, Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, Parent and Family Relations, and the Center for Student Conflict Management.

Annual ‘Sex and Chocolate Carnival’

Join the UHS Health Promotion Office for its annual “Sex and Chocolate Carnival” on Thursday, October 31, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Hirst Lounge, Wilson Commons. Celebrate Halloween with lots of candy, safer sex supplies, giveaways, raffles, and Insomnia Cookies for the first 60 attendees. Organizations represented include Planned Parenthood, Title IX, RESTORE, Trillium Health, and more.

EcoReps accepting applications for spring semester

If you are interested in sustainability or eager to make impactful environmental changes, apply to the EcoReps program. As an EcoRep, you will have opportunities to organize hall events and projects to promote sustainability. The two-credit course will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to create changes. The deadline to apply is November 8 at 11:59 p.m. Email urecoreps@gmail.com with questions.

The Mindful University Project is recruiting faculty and course instructors for the seventh cohort of its Mindful Professor Training Program. Built on cutting-edge research, the program offers participants tools to cultivate calm, be present, lead mindfully, enhance teaching effectiveness, and promote student well-being. Take a boba break with Simon Business School

Heading over to College Town for a lunch break? Stop by Taichi Bubble Tea, Ramen, and Poke Bowl between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday, October 28, to learn about graduate business programs and enjoy a bubble tea on Simon Business School. Have all of your questions answered by a program staff member in a casual environment and leave with an application fee waiver, a $90 value.

Department of Psychiatry DICE grand rounds lecture

Join the Department of Psychiatry for its next Diversity, Inclusion, Culture, and Equity (DICE) grand rounds, on Wednesday, October 30, at noon. Diane Schenandoah, faithkeeper of Oneida Nation, Wolf Clan of the Six Nations Haudenosaunee Confederacy, will present “Living Under Principles of Peace.” CEUs and CMEs are available. Register to attend in person at the School of Medicine and Dentistry large auditorium (2-6424) or virtually via Zoom.

‘Confluence’ student and faculty dance concert

The Program of Dance and Movement presents “Confluence ’24,” an annual dance concert by students and faculty. Performances are Friday, November 1, and Saturday, November 2, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 3, at 2 p.m. in Sloan Performing Arts Center. Tickets are free for students with University ID and $10 for the community. Find information on the performers and program here.

Support the UR Medicine Food Pantry at the East Avenue Grocery Run

Use this link to register as part of the UR Medicine Food Pantry team to walk or run a 1K, 5K, or 10K for the East Avenue Grocery Run and 100 percent of your registration fee will come back to the emergency food program, aiding patients with urgent food needs.
