Submissions open for the Art of Science Competition

Submissions have begun to roll in for the annual Ed and Barbara Hajim Art of Science Competition. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to submit artistic representations of science, technology, engineering, math, and sustainable themes. The contest offers cash prizes, and the winning entries will be displayed in the Carlson Library. The deadline to submit is Sunday, March 16. Learn more on the Art of Science web page.

Job and internship resources available at Rochester for international students

Join the Greene Center in Havens Lounge in Wilson Common today, February 20, at 1 p.m. for the third of a three-part series designed specifically for international students. Today’s session covers your job search, how to talk to companies about your visa status, how you can start a company as an international student, and how to maximize the resources available to you at Rochester. Engineering and tech peer-to-peer fair and panel

Students interested in pursuing summer internships are encouraged to stop by an internship fair and panel hosted by the Greene Center and partners on Friday, February 21, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the May Room, Wilson Commons. The event will feature a panel of current students and alumni working in the field who have completed internships and are eager to share their stories. After the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with student hosts from Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Science departments to learn more about their internship experiences, the search processes, job functions, and what their next steps should be in securing a summer internship. Prizes and a dessert bar will be available. Register here.

Four-week session on spirituality and mental health

Register to attend a four-week session to learn with others how spirituality and mental health impact each other, facilitated by Sam Kinsman from the Interfaith Chapel and Grace Weinstein from UCC. The program takes place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays between March 18 and April 8. It is limited to 10 participants and is open to graduate and undergraduate students. People of all spiritual, humanist, religious, and worldview traditions are welcomed. For more information, email Grace Weinstein or Sam Kinsman.

Open Scholarship Awards for PhD students

Open Scholarship Community Rochester collaborated this year with the Office of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs to offer for the first time the Open Scholarship Awards, which celebrates PhD students who demonstrated exemplary efforts in making their research open and accessible to the community. Applications for these awards are due on February 28. Up to 15 prizes are available to students from all disciplines in five domains: physical and natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, arts and humanities, and medical sciences.

March concerts at Eastman

March at the Eastman School of Music features student performances across multiple departments and special guests as part of the Eastman Presents Series. Events are free and open to the public unless noted otherwise. Find details about the upcoming concerts.

Xcalibur Game Jam

Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X and the Robbins Library present the inaugural Xcalibur Game Jam. In this 32-hour event, you and your team will create a medieval-inspired game from start to finish. From 10 a.m. on March 1 to 6 p.m. on March 2, teams of up to four will create a game (digital or physical) from scratch. Enjoy free food, drinks, and workshops throughout the event. The games will be judged, and prizes will include JBL Bluetooth speakers, a mini projector, wireless headphones, and metal DND dice sets. Learn more and register individually here. You’ll have the chance to connect with others and form or join a team once the event begins.

Relax and Renew Retreat

Greet the first glimpse of spring at the Relax and Renew half-day silent meditation retreat, hosted by the Mindful University Project. Open to all students, faculty, and staff, the retreat offers four peaceful hours of noble silence, featuring various guided meditations, gentle yoga, mindful walking and eating, and more. Led by experienced facilitators, this immersive experience takes place on March 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Spurrier Dance Studio; no prior meditation experience is needed. Register now to reserve your spot.
