University joins Empire AI Consortium to advance research and collaboration

The University is joining other public and private research institutions in New York State in the Empire AI Consortium, an initiative that is bridging the gap between researchers, public interest organizations, and small companies to accelerate the development of artificial intelligence centered in public interest. Rochester is also the first integrated health system in the consortium.

Take a break and visit some therapy dogs

Feeling stressed? Join the UHS Health Promotion Office’s monthly Paws for Stress Relief program at the Eastman School of Music on February 27 and on the River Campus on March 3. Peer Health Advocates will be there to provide well-being goodies, info, handouts, and more.

‘ABCs of Competitive Student Fellowships’ for juniors and seniors

The Student Fellowships Office is holding drop-in hours for all juniors and seniors on Friday, February 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. in Dewey Hall, Room 4-209B. Enjoy light refreshments while learning about national and global student fellowships that not only provide funding for academic and service pursuits but also mentoring, professional development, and lifelong networks.

Scarf-knitting workshop with the BIC

Graduate and undergraduate students from all schools are invited to join the Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center on Friday, February 28, at 7 p.m. for an art-making and LGBTQ community-building “BIC-Ture This” scarf-knitting workshop. All supplies are provided, and no prior experience is needed. Register to attend by Tuesday, February 25.

Apply for International Graduate Research Showcase

International graduate students are invited to apply for the first International Graduate Research Showcase, which provides an opportunity to present their research through poster sessions and win cash prizes to support their research. Part of the University’s first Global Week, highlighting global research efforts, and Graduate Student Appreciation Week, the event is sponsored by the International Services Office, the Office for Global Engagement, and the International Students and Scholars Association. The International Graduate Research Showcase will be held in Hirst Lounge in Wilson Commons on Monday, April 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. The deadline to apply as a poster presenter is March 7.

2025 Rochester Urban Fellows Program

The Center for Community Engagement is now accepting applications for the 2025 Rochester Urban Fellows program. This 10-week summer program immerses students in Rochester, learning about its history and culture while pursuing change-making projects with local nonprofits and community-based organizations. You can attend an interest meeting on Zoom today, February 24, at 7 p.m. Applications are due by Friday, March 14.

Collage night with UCC

The University Counseling Center invites all students to Collage Night today, February 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Wilson Commons, Room 122. Materials will be provided. Make collages and talk about whatever is fueling your artistic expression while also learning about mental health services available at the University.

One-page PhD policy pitch competition

Current University PhD and professional doctorate (research) candidates, as well as postdoctoral appointees, can showcase their ability to communicate the public policy implications of their research in this pitch competition. Participants will develop skills that bridge the gap between academia and public policy, fostering collaboration and innovation. Learn more and register here. The competition is presented by the Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Office in collaboration with the Office of Government and Community Relations.

Fall 2024 reimbursement reminder

Did you previously submit a fall 2024 tuition reimbursement application for classes taken at an outside college or university? Don’t forget to submit your supporting documentation to the Office of Total Rewards within 90 days of course completion. Send your tuition bill, proof of payment, and final grades to TuitionBenefits@ur.rochester.edu.

Learn how to prepare for graduate school as a working professional

Are you considering pursuing graduate school while working full-time? Join members of the Simon Business School community on Tuesday, February 25, from noon to 12:30 p.m. for a webinar, “Preparing for Graduate School as a Working Professional.” Attendees of the live session will receive an application fee waiver, a $90 value. For those unable to attend, a recording will be emailed to the address used for registration.
