University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Tuesday, March 4, for Jo Keating, an outpatient access rep II in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation front office, who died on February 1. Keating joined the University staff in 2024.
Join the UHS Health Promotion Office and Title IX office for a consent and boundaries workshop today, February 25, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Welles-Brown Room, Rush Rhees Library. Learn about consent and boundary-setting and gain practical skills to use in platonic and romantic settings. A catered meal is provided. Open to all students, registration is encouraged but not required.
Past to Present: Alumni Roadmap to Networking
Join the Greene Center, the Office of Minority Student Affairs, and student organizational partners today, February 24, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to connect with and learn from alumni about their experiences navigating the workplace and building their networks within various fields and career paths. There will be a dinner buffet, a 20-minute panel, and small-group discussions. Check out the alumni attending and register in Handshake to reserve your spot.
Learn about your relationship with food
All students are invited to learn more about their relationship with food and available resources by visiting the University Counseling Center’s table outside the Welles-Brown Room Oasis and Hawkins-Carlson Room in Rush Rhees Library on Wednesday, February 26, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. You can also take an eating disorder screening and review the results with someone from UCC.
Year One session on understanding and engaging in faculty governance
Designed for new and early-career faculty, this Rochester Year One session will provide an overview of faculty governance committees, their purpose, and how you can get involved. You’ll also learn about their priorities and the process for addressing concerns. Register here to attend today, February 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Workshop on using contract grading effectively
The Teaching Center’s Instructor Spotlight is Deb Rossen-Knill, a professor in and executive director of the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program, who will offer a virtual workshop on Thursday, February 27, from 11 a.m. to noon. Open to all University instructors, this one-hour Teaching Center Zoom workshop provides an overview of best practices for contract grading, a standards-based assessment tool, and examples of how it’s being used effectively at Rochester. Environmental Health and Safety’s Laboratory Safety Unit will be moving the chemical inventory, waste management, and inspection system out of Chematix and into CampusOptics in mid-July. The move will improve the user experience, data management, and compliance. Environmental Health and Safety is working with University IT and Campus Optics to move over all chemical inventory, room, and user data before the launch. Read more about the change.
The Robin Lynn Lecture is an endowed series exploring key themes in urban studies and urban history. Sara Bronin, architect and founding director of the National Zoning Atlas, presents the next lecture in this series, “Key to the City: How Zoning Shapes Our World,” on Thursday, February 27, at 5 p.m. in Goergen Hall, Room 101. Relax and Renew Retreat
Open to all students, faculty, and staff, the Relax and Renew half-day silent meditation retreat, hosted by the Mindful University Project, offers four peaceful hours of noble silence, featuring various guided meditations, gentle yoga, mindful walking and eating, and more. Experienced facilitators will lead the immersive experience, which takes place on March 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Spurrier Dance Studio; no prior meditation experience is needed. Join River Campus Libraries for an evening with Peter Antonucci ’82, a former litigator turned novelist and world traveler, as he discusses his latest book, Tides of Betrayal.
