A long ER visit can be a good time to learn about cervical cancer screening

A study led by David Adler, a professor of emergency medicine and a member of Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Cancer Prevention and Control research program, showed that downtime in the emergency room can have a potential upside for women who are behind on cervical cancer screenings.

IN MEMORIAM

Flags will be lowered for Mahlon Johnson

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Thursday, March 20, for Mahlon Johnson, a professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, who died on February 3. Johnson joined the University faculty in 2006.

Gratitude led Yaofang (Vicki) Liang ’23W (PhD) to open JoyMart, an Asian grocery store and cafe at Rochester’s College Town. Read more about her time at the University and what the market has to offer.

The Well-Being for Life and Learning Training Program offers invaluable insights into supporting student well-being through simple, effective, and compassionate methods. Explore a range of skill-building workshops designed to enhance your toolbox for student support. Programs are open to all faculty and student support staff. Office of Research IT to launch esignature compliant solution with Adobe Acrobat Sign

The Office of Research IT is rolling out Adobe Acrobat Sign digital signing software for FDA-regulated clinical research studies that require eConsent and other documents requiring 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. Research teams and PIs will be able to use this service beginning March 26 but must complete mandatory training in MyPath. Adobe Acrobat Sign is the only University-approved 21 CFR Part 11 and HIPAA-compliant solution available for clinical research teams. Last week to apply for data science graduate programs

This is the last week to apply to data science graduate programs. The application deadline for the Master of Science in data science program is March 15 for full-time students applying to start in fall 2025. Part-time students seeking to start an advanced certificate or master’s in data science in summer or fall 2025 should also apply by March 15. Interested applicants can find out more here.

Art of Science submissions due March 16

All submissions for the 2025 Ed and Barbara Hajim Art of Science competition must be in by Sunday, March 16, at 11:59 p.m. for the chance to win $1,000. The competition is open to all University students, faculty, and staff.

  • Photographs, illustrations, visualizations, renderings, and posters are welcome.
  • Entries must connect to the theme of STEM.
  • Entries must be large, high-resolution images (300 dpi) in JPEG format and at least 3,000 pixels wide on the longest edge.
