The University is launching UR Essentials, a program in partnership with Barnes & Noble that ensures undergraduate students receive all required textbooks and course materials before the first day of class.
Instead of buying books separately, the cost for undergraduates is now covered through tuition. Physical books will be bundled for easy pickup, and digital materials will be available on Blackboard. Be on the lookout for an email from Barnes & Noble confirming your courses and method of delivery later this summer.
Faculty continue to select the best materials for their courses, and all formats and publishers are supported. To guarantee timely delivery, faculty should submit their course material selections to the bookstore by May 15.
The Students’ Association will host an informational town hall about the program from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, in the Humanities Center. Program staff and representatives from Barnes & Noble will be on hand to discuss the program and answer any questions.
Michael Jarvis, a professor of history and the director of the Digital Elmina Project and the Smiths Island Archaeology Project, discusses the hidden history of Bermuda and its pivotal role in reshaping our understanding of colonial America.
The Writing Fellows will be available to undergraduate students in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences for 12 hours to tutor papers, from any discipline and at any stage in the writing process, while you refuel with pizza and snacks. Write-A-Thontakes place from 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, to 2 a.m. Monday, April 28, in Rush Rhees Library, Room G-122.
If you are attending an outside college or university this summer, submit your online tuition reimbursement application by logging into Workday, clicking “Benefits and Pay,” and then clicking “Employee Tuition Reimbursement Application” under Suggested Links. All applications must be received within 30 days of the course start date. Visit the tuition benefits website to learn more.
On May 1, show your support for the areas of the University that are meaningful to you. When 500 faculty or staff members give in honor of Day of Giving, a $50,000 One Rochester Faculty and Staff challenge will be unlocked. Make your gift early or become an advocate today.
