IN MEMORIAM

Flags will be lowered for Laura Zanino

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Tuesday, June 3, for Laura Zanino, a department coordinator IV in the Office of Disability Resources, who died on May 7. Zanino joined the University staff in 2024.


RESEARCH

Why are urban children more prone to allergies?

Research led by Kirsi Jarvinen-Seppo, the Founders’ Distinguished Professor of Pediatric Allergy, and PhD student Catherine Pizzarello, provides new insight into how the immune system is shaped in early life and why urban children are more prone to allergies than children from rural areas.

Fasting, keto, Mediterranean, or paleo? Find answers through Well-U

The Nutrition Basics program, starting on Tuesday, May 27, at noon, will explore different diets, components of a healthy eating pattern, and more. Join the group discussion led by an expert dietitian from the lifestyle management team and, when completed, earn a $100 incentive from Well-UJoin now.

Active Learning teaching group

Explore small, easy-to-implement, evidence-based classroom activities that can be dropped into ongoing courses. Participants commit to meeting six times to read James Lang’s Small Teaching (provided) and to trying one of the teaching strategies and reporting back to the group on how it worked out. Open to instructors teaching fall 2025 courses. The group meets in person on the River Campus and will be scheduled by polling registrants. Register here.

Summer programs for kids at MAG

“Splash into Summer” with the Memorial Art Gallery’s Creative Workshop, June 23–27. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, children ages 5-10 will be immersed in a morning program of art-viewing and artmaking. Every day will feature a different museum tour or outdoor sculpture park tour and an artmaking project. Find pricing, details, and register here.
