Metasurfaces show promise in boosting AR image clarity and brightness

URochester researchers led by Nickolas Vamivakas, the Marie C. Wilson and Joseph C. Wilson Professor of Optical Physics, have designed and demonstrated a new optical component that could significantly enhance the brightness and image quality of augmented reality (AR) glasses. The advance brings AR glasses a step closer to becoming as commonplace and useful as today’s smartphones.

High cholesterol programs tailored to you

Well-U’s two cholesterol-focused programs cover all needs, whether you have a diagnosis of high cholesterol or you are just looking to control your increasing levels. Let a condition management coach guide you through your diagnosis, or choose the lifestyle management sessions to learn more about the changes you can make to lower your numbers. Once your program is completed, eligible employees can earn $100.

Center for Matter at Atomic Pressures seminar

Join the NSF Center for Matter at Atomic Pressures today, November 14, at 4 p.m. via Zoom for the seminar “Mapping Ultrafast Electron Collisions With an X-Ray Free Electron Laser,” with guest speaker Sam Vinko, a professor of physics at the University of Oxford. Celebrate International Education Week with URochester, November 17–21. This year’s theme, “One World, Many Stories,” highlights the experiences that connect the global community. Title IX and Health Promotion events

Students can join Title IX and Health Promotion today, November 14, at 11 a.m. to learn about healthy conflict and gain some conflict navigation skills.

They can also attend “Destress and Reset: Somatic Processing Workshop” from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Leibner-Cooper Room, Goergen Athletic Center.

UR Stars spotlight

Imani Addison, Transportation and Logistics

Each week, HR shines a spotlight on a faculty or staff member who has been recognized as a UR Star. Imani Addison, a reception clerk in Transportation and Logistics, was recognized for demonstrating leadership.

“Imani was working at the front desk of the parking office in Goler when I stopped by with a new member of the provost’s leadership team to secure his parking. There had been a breakdown in communication between our two offices, and while I thought the employee’s assignment had been approved, it had not. Imani jumped right on it, consulted with a manager, and returned very quickly with the correct assignment for the new employee. We appreciate her professionalism and diligence!”
