Barry Silverstein ’84, formerly the senior director and chief technology officer of optics and display in Meta’s Reality Labs, will serve as director of URochester’s Center for Extended Reality, a transdisciplinary center focused on artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, and everything in between.

At URochester, dentists, neuroscientists, surgeons, psychiatrists, anesthesiologists, nurse practitioners, and others are partnering to gain knowledge and insights that could transform treatment, care, and outcomes for chronic pain.

The University has launched new tools to help researchers navigate increasingly complex import tariffs on research equipment. With tariffs of 10 to 35 percent now affecting many international purchases, researchers are encouraged to track their own equipment orders and documentation. New guidance, support channels, and an electronic form for exception requests are available at the link above.

Open to all URochester instructors, faculty, and staff, these Zoom workshops are designed to provide practical strategies and ready-to-implement tools. Thursday workshops take place from 11 a.m. to noon or noon to 1 p.m., and Friday workshops are from noon to 1 p.m.

The Center for Integrated Research Computing will host its next symposium on Friday, November 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Wegmans Hall, Room 1400, featuring Hongbo Liu, an assistant professor of biomedical genetics. Experience the Memorial Art Gallery’s Frontiers of Impressionism: Paintings from the Worcester Art Museum on an American Sign Language (ASL) tour, led by Deaf tour guide Jackie Schertz on Saturday, December 6, from 1 to 2 p.m. This tour is designed for the Deaf community in ASL only. An ASL tour with voice interpretation will be offered on Saturday, December 13, at 1 p.m.
