Physician shortage in rural areas of the US worsened since 2017

The national shortage of primary care physicians has been a concern for years. A new study led by Colleen Fogarty, the William Rocktaschel Chair in Family Medicine, underscores how urgent the problem is and where the biggest pain point lies: in rural parts of the country that are seeing the largest population spikes in nearly a century.

Save time with AI tools in Blackboard

Blackboard Ultra courses have several AI tools built in that help faculty save time and streamline course design and development. This workshop will be offered twice, once on Tuesday, December 2, at noon and again on Wednesday, December 3, at 2 p.m. Register here.

Workshop on building sustainable partnerships in the classroom

URochester faculty can attend this session on Friday, December 5, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in the Welles-Brown Room, Rush Rhees Library, to learn about building successful community partnerships in the classroom. The workshop features a presentation by faculty leaders in the field, followed by a discussion about community-engaged pedagogy, including how to fund and sustain community partnerships.

Midnight Madness at the Friends of Strong Gift Shop

During “Midnight Madness” on Friday, December 5, the Friends of Strong Gift Shop by Cloverkey will stay open until 1 a.m. so overnight staff have the chance to shop for holiday gifts. The Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters ATM stand by the green elevators will also be open from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., serving limited holiday drinks. You can also join the sweepstakes for a gift basket donated by the gift shop and Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters.

Digital Media Studies Lo-Fi Prototype Fair

The annual Lo-Fi Prototype Fair from Digital Media Studies is taking place on Thursday, December 4, from 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Barbara J. Burger iZone atrium. Test out low-fidelity versions of senior capstone projects and learn more about what Digital Media Studies majors do.

‘A View from Washington and Albany’ public health grand rounds lecture

Josh Farrelman, vice president for government relations, will provide participants with the latest developments from Albany and Washington and focus on key legislative, budgetary, and regulatory issues at the next Public Health Grand Rounds on Friday, December 5, from noon to 1 p.m. Register to attend.

“Level Up Your Sleep” is an interactive workshop for students today, December 1, at 6:30 p.m. in Wegmans Hall, Room 1400.

The Student Fellowships Office hosts a Fulbright 101 information session, in person and virtually, on Thursday, December 4.
