Farm-living families develop earlier immune maturation against food allergies |
Children who grow up in farming communities have long been known to develop far fewer allergies than their urban peers. A new study led by Kirsi M. Jarvinen-Seppo, the Founders’ Distinguished Professor of Pediatric Allergy, offers one possible reason why: their immune systems may mature faster, and breast milk appears to play an important supporting role.

Celebrating 175 |

|
|
As the University celebrates its 175th year, we’re highlighting some of the notable people, events, and discoveries that have contributed to Rochester’s rich history. Today, we take a look back, and a look ahead, at our pursuit of ever better.
To borrow from the editors’ note in the most recent issue of Rochester Review: Meliora is more than a wish or ambition for those in the URochester community; it’s a living, global, inspiring actuality. From Avatar’s native language to anabolic steroids to the volunteer military to metal that refuses to sink, the newly redesigned magazine highlights 175 ways—over 175 years—the University has made a lasting impression on the world.
