Workday update affects myURHR, UR Financials and Procurement, and UR Student

The Workday platform will be updated today, January 26, to incorporate a new navigational feature, affecting myURHR, UR Financials, UR Procurement, and UR Student. This new feature introduces a persistent navigation menu on the left side of the home page, improving your access to key system functions. It also allows each user to pin up to four apps to appear at the top of the list, based on their preferences. Follow the system-specific links for more information.

URochester awarded Keck Foundation funding to tackle chemistry grand challenge

The W. M. Keck Foundation has awarded the University a grant for research at the forefront of how light and matter interact. The project, titled “Quantum Electrodynamics for Selective Transformations,” aims to create new chemistry using quantum light and has the potential to unlock new opportunities for chemical and material synthesis.

Nursing home capacity has dropped since the pandemic

New research led by Brian McGarry, an assistant professor of geriatrics and aging and of public health sciences, shows that since the COVID-19 pandemic began, one quarter of US counties experienced declines in nursing home capacity of 15 percent or more—with the greatest declines reported in rural areas.

Creative Cafe sessions at the Gandhi Institute

Join the MK Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence for Season for Nonviolence Creative Cafe sessions on Tuesdays, January 27, February 10 and 24, and March 10 and 24, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

‘Spill the Tea’ and explore the University’s charter

On Wednesday, January 28, at 3:30 p.m., in recognition of the University’s Charter Week, join Melissa Mead, the John M. and Barbara Keil University Archivist and Rochester Collections Librarian, for a brief talk on the figures and embellishments hidden in the formal charter. Tea, treats, and the opportunity to spend time with the charter will be provided during the event, which takes place on the second floor of Rush Rhees Library. Part of the Department of Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation’s ongoing Spill the Tea series.

Open house for A Hospital of the Highest Order exhibit

Miner Library’s History of Medicine Section will be holding an open house for its newest centennial exhibit, A Hospital of the Highest Order: 100 Years of Strong, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on January 29. Explore the exhibit, pick up some freebies, and add your name to the timeline. The first 100 Medical Center employees to visit the open house will receive a coupon for a free coffee from Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters.

Car seat check events

Car seat check events will continue on the last Wednesday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Golisano Children’s Hospital upper loop. Contact erin_agnello@urmc.rochester.edu to make an appointment.

Explore CSC 160: AI for All this semester

CSC 160: AI for All is an experimental course that will explore how students can safely, ethically, and effectively leverage AI to enhance their ability to learn. This four-credit course has no prerequisites and is particularly appropriate for undergraduate students.
