Joseph Eberly’s family endows physics professorship and research fund in his memory |
As part of For Ever Better: The Campaign for the University of Rochester, the Eberly family has established two funds: the Joseph H. Eberly Endowed Professorship in Physics and the Joseph H. Eberly Endowed Professorship Research Fund. Each gift reflects the family’s shared values and further strengthens the University’s commitment to science and research.

Flags will be lowered for Taryn Flanigan |
University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, and the flags atop the Eastman Theatre at the corner of Gibbs and Main Streets, will be lowered on Wednesday, January 28, for Taryn Flanigan, an outpatient access representative in the Department of Imaging Sciences at Strong Memorial Hospital, who died on December 16. Flanigan joined the University in 2025.

|
As taurine fuels leukemia, it may also impact bone health |
In a groundbreaking basic science study last year, URochester researchers discovered that taurine, available in energy drinks and as a supplement, feeds the growth of leukemia stem cells. A new study, recently published by the same Wilmot Cancer Institute team, expands that work and suggests that as taurine fuels leukemia, it becomes less available for other normal cells and may result in weaker bones in mice.

Online grief circles with the MK Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence are a biweekly gathering to honor pain and sorrow. The next session is on Thursday, January 29, at 4 p.m.

Healthy men needed for brain health study |
The Department of Neurology is recruiting healthy men ages 45-66 as a comparison group to complement its study on HIV brain health. The study involves three clinic visits (2-3 hours) for yearly memory testing, questionnaires, and a blood draw. Participants will also complete MRI brain imaging at the start and end of the three-year study. Compensation is up to $390. 1098-T tuition tax statements for calendar year 2025 |
The Bursar’s Office shares that qualifying students may access their 2025 1098-T in UR Student by entering “1098-T” in the search bar and selecting the “View” or “Print” options. A QRC with detailed steps is available here. If you elected to receive a printed 1098-T, those forms were mailed recently. 1098-Ts may only be accessed via your student login. Third-party proxies do not have access to 1098-Ts through their UR Student logins.
