Webinar on current federal immigration enforcement and campus practices |
Faculty, staff, and employees at non-URMC locations are invited to attend an upcoming webinar on Thursday, March 5, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., focused on current federal immigration enforcement and campus practices. Hosted by the International Services Office, representatives from the law offices of Harter, Secrest & Emery, the University’s Office of Counsel, and the Department of Public Safety will present information on this topic for employees working on the River Campus and at the Eastman School of Music and affiliated locations (e.g. the Memorial Art Gallery and Laboratory for Laser Energetics). An upcoming webinar will be offered for all personnel at clinical locations. Registration is required.

Apply for a Community Health Improvement mini-grant |
Applications are now being accepted for the Community Health Improvement mini-grant, one-time grants up to $2,000 offered through the Center for Community Health & Prevention. Up to two applicants will be selected during the application period. For more than 15 years, these grants have provided URMC and community partnerships with additional funding to address concerns such as transportation, childcare, meeting space rental, and more. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8.

‘Learners on Location’ video on the power of role models |
In the latest video in the “Learners on Location” series, featuring conversations between learners and their faculty mentors, neurosurgeon David Paul, director of brain and spine trauma and an assistant professor of neurosurgery, and third-year medical student Bryan Redmond, discuss the importance of role models throughout the medical school experience and the benefits of living, working, and contributing to the Rochester community.

National College Health Assessment email |
Students who received an email to take the National College Health Assessment should complete the survey by March 6 for a chance to win Rocky Bucks. Results from this survey research study will help Health Promotion better understand student well-being and will be used to implement and improve programs and services.

Shaping the future of student life through the Apeiron Project |
The Apeiron Project offers two opportunities for students to get involved with the Office of the Vice President for University Student Life: the University Student Life Advisory Committee and Post-Graduation Employment. Applications are now open for both opportunities.

Danforth Dining Around the World proposals |
The Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center, in partnership with Dining Services, hosts a Danforth Dining Takeover on Thursday, April 9, during lunch hours. All recognized undergraduate and graduate student organizations are encouraged to apply to collaborate on this initiative, and selected organizations will work with student leaders to partner with Danforth chefs during the week of March 16. Organizations interested in participating should complete the interest form by Friday, March 6.

These major issues have brought together Democrats and Republicans in states |

Legislators in most states want to regulate artificial intelligence and curb the sprawling, electricity-hungry data centers that make AI possible in the first place. Big tech has “scrambled the typical ideological alignments of the left and the right,” says David Primo, the Ani and Mark Gabrellian Professor and a professor of political science and business administration. “Conservatives and liberals are saying, ‘Well, here’s an opportunity for us to stop what we think is a problem.'” And while the two parties remain far apart on many issues—like tax policy, Primo says—it’s not just big tech that has Republicans and Democrats aligned.
