New DPS position enhances transparency, ensures compliance

The Department of Public Safety has appointed SueAnn Farnsworth as the University’s Clery compliance officer. Farnsworth will work with offices across campuses and the Medical Center, as well as with local law enforcement and fire departments, to lead the University’s compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act. 

In memoriam

Flags will be lowered for Thomas Hsiang

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, and the flags atop the Eastman Theatre at the corner of Gibbs and Main Streets, will be lowered on Tuesday, March 24, for Thomas Hsiang, a professor emeritus in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who died on February 12. Hsiang joined the University faculty in 1981.

Team approach, low-cost interventions lead to major reduction in opioid prescriptions after surgery

A new study led by Jacob Moalem, a professor of surgery and of medicine, is the first report of a low-cost, scalable, and self-sustaining opioid stewardship program spanning all perioperative phases.
