Yanfang Ren, esteemed researcher and educator, remembered |
Yanfang Ren, founding director and clinical chief of the Howitt Urgent Dental Care Center and founding chair of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health Diagnostic Sciences Department, is being remembered for a career in advancing the science of oral health through thoughtful research, compassionate teaching, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of patients and communities. Ren, who died on March 29, joined the University in 1997.
University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, and the flags atop the Eastman Theatre at the corner of Gibbs and Main Streets, will be lowered for Ren on Tuesday, May 5.

The Office of Research Integrity, Stewardship & Ethics, and University Libraries host a conversation on Tuesday, April 28, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X about best practices for data management and stewardship, and how LabArchives can help with research compliance.

Symposium: ‘250 Years of the American Experiment’ |
The Frederick Douglass Institute and the Department of Black Studies will convene a spring symposium, “250 Years of the American Experiment: Critical Reflections,” on Friday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Havens Lounge, Wilson Commons, featuring panelists from the URochester community. RSVPs are requested for the event. Staff, faculty, students, and Rochester community members are welcome to attend.

Bridge Art Gallery call for artwork deadline extended |
The Department of Psychiatry is seeking artwork submissions for the upcoming show “Finding Community.” Accepted works will be shown in the Bridge Art Gallery, located within the department at Strong Memorial Hospital. Only 2D media will be considered. Submit artwork by May 13.

The Eastman Institute for Oral Health’s Office of Alumni Relations is hosting an alumni and friends cocktail reception during the 79th annual session of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry on Saturday, May 23. Register by Friday, May 15, as space is limited.

For donor Megan Antonitto, the first thing that comes to mind when she hears the words “United Way” is community. Check out the video to learn more about how pledging support helps the United Way address daily challenges for 400,000 neighbors—that’s one in three people across the region.
