Antibiotics save babies’ lives but affect gut, lungs, and ability to fight infection |
URochester Medicine researchers led by Hitesh Deshmukh, dean’s professor of pediatrics, have found that early antibiotic exposure disrupts babies’ natural gut bacterial balance and that the disruption “travels” to the lungs—fundamentally rewiring how lung immune cells are programmed and influencing lung repair and the ability to fight infections.

UKG system maintenance |
UKG will perform system maintenance on Tuesday, April 28, from 6 to 10 p.m. UKG mobile and web application access will be unavailable periodically during these four hours. UKG time clocks will still accept swipes during this time, and swipes will be captured in the UKG application once the maintenance period ends. No action is required.
For clinical departments or other units using UKG for scheduling, please print your staffing sheets for Tuesday evening and Wednesday as a backup. Contact the support team via email or by calling (585) 275-8747 if you experience any issues.

AI voice and phone scams |
Scammers can use AI to mimic voices and spoof caller ID, making a call look like it’s coming from someone you know. If a caller pressures you to act fast, pause and verify first. Common red flags include requests to buy gift cards, transfer money, share passwords or verification codes, or “confirm” personal information. Here’s what to do:
- Slow down; urgent pressure is a warning sign
- Hang up and call back using a trusted number from a website, ID card, or your saved contacts—not the one the caller gives you
- Don’t share passwords or multi-factor authentication (MFA) codes. Most legitimate businesses, including IT and banks, won’t have a person ask you for them.
