Memorial Art Gallery raises $9 million to make admission free in 2027

Fueled by strong donor support through For Ever Better: The Campaign for the University of Rochester, the Memorial Art Gallery’s “Free for All, Forever” fundraising effort has surpassed its original goal and timeline. Thanks to the generosity of its members and the community, the museum will open its doors free of charge to all in 2027, accelerating its vision to expand access to art and cultural education across the region.

Of note

Bursar’s Office on-site operations closed Friday

Bursar’s Office on-site operations, including the information window in Meliora Hall, will not be available on Friday, May 15. Staff will be available by phone during regularly scheduled telephone hours and by email during regular business hours.

For faculty and staff

MMA Prosper Wise retirement planning tool available

Not sure if you’re on track for retirement or where to start? With MMA Prosper Wise, you have access to one-on-one financial coaching at no cost. A financial coach can help you build a plan, understand your options, and make confident decisions, whether you’re focused on retirement, budgeting, or saving for what’s next. Members of your household can also use this benefit. Visit the University’s MMA Prosper Wise website and follow the instructions to create your account.

Options for last-minute child, adult, or pet care

You can use backup care through Care.com when school or daycare is closed, your regular babysitter calls off sick, you have a workday with no coverage, or you’re planning a day off and need extra support. Eligible faculty and staff can access subsidized, reliable care to help fill the gap—whether it’s unexpected or planned.

Lecture: A New(ish) Framework for Measuring Ideology Through Discourse

The Goergen Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence hosts the lecture “A New(ish) Framework for Measuring Ideology Through Discourse” with Kenny Joseph, an associate professor of computer science and engineering at the University at Buffalo, today, May 14, from 11 to 11:50 a.m. in Sloan Auditorium, Goergen Hall. Weight stigma in clinical care workshop

This three-part educational workshop addresses weight bias and stigma in clinical care, offering practical strategies to recognize and interrupt their impact on patients. Through reflective sessions and hands-on practice with standardized patients, participants will gain tools to promote safety and dignity for patients of all sizes. Space is limited; register early to secure your spot on Wednesday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to noon.

For students

Donate items during move-out

Students living in a University residential building can donate clothing, unopened toiletries, and nonperishable food through “Move-Out Cleanout,” running through May 17. Donate larger items like furniture, lamps, fridges, and more at “Dump and Run” on May 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Riverview Apartments. Find details for both events here.
