University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, and the flags atop the Eastman Theatre at the corner of Gibbs and Main Streets, will be lowered on Thursday, July 9, for Melissa Latson, a cook helper in auxiliary operations, who died on May 27. Latson joined the University in 2006.

Carlson Science and Engineering Library will be temporarily closed through July 5 for construction to update the building’s fire alarm system. Access to the library’s collections continues throughout the closure. Materials can be requested online through Discover UR and picked up at the Q&i Desk in Rush Rhees Library. Research consultations with STEM librarians can be scheduled online.

The next summer applied genomics seminar on Monday, June 22, focuses on RNA biology and sensory systems with Gaëlle Talross, an assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. The session takes place from noon to 1 p.m. in Wegmans Hall, Room 1005.

For the fall semester, the Warner School of Education & Human Development and the Office for Global Engagement will welcome another cohort of 19 international teachers funded by the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program. The program facilitates professional development opportunities for teachers from around the world to promote cultural, linguistic, and educational exchange.

Volunteers are needed to be paired with an international teacher for cultural exchange and support during their visit from August to December 2026. All Fulbright teachers will live at Whipple Park. Friendship families will not be expected to provide housing.

From the moment he first picked up the French horn, Jacob Factor, a PhD student in music education at Eastman School of Music, has battled through pain caused by the rare throat condition pharyngoceles. At URochester, he found a team of otolaryngologists, biomedical engineers, and audio engineers who designed and tested an assistive brace that has him playing stronger, at higher ranges, and more confidently than ever before.
