A community initiative to improve access to sunscreen

Ella Engels, a fourth-year medical student at the School of Medicine & Dentistry, set out to make free sunscreen available at various locations throughout the county, with dispensers currently at Seneca Park Zoo and Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester.

Book your biometric screening today

Well-U is offering biometric screening appointments today, Wednesday, June 24, in Helen Wood Hall and on Friday, June 26, in LeChase Assembly Hall, off of Sarah Flaum Atrium. Availability is limited; book online or call (585) 275-6810.

Volunteer for fall 2026 Welcome Week

Help give new students and their families a warm Yellowjacket welcome this August. The orientation team is looking for faculty and staff volunteers to assist with check-in, share meals with families, and support other activities during Welcome Week. Learn more and raise your hand to volunteer by this Friday, June 26. Email orientation@rochester.edu with questions.

Make cholesterol control a reality

Register for Well-U’s program for high cholesterol and meet virtually one-on-one with an expert from the lifestyle management team. Get started and earn $150 after you complete the sessions.

Retiree benefits webinar

The Office of Total Rewards hosts a webinar on Monday, June 29, at 1 p.m. to discuss eligibility for retiree benefits, health and dental insurance, Medicare, enrollment periods, and more. Register to attend.

Environmental health science pilot project program

Funds up to $50,000 are available for new research studies investigating how environmental factors influence human health. Open to all URochester faculty, preliminary proposals are due August 10, with full proposals due September 21. Collaborations with Environmental Health Sciences Center members and Institute for Human Health and the Environment affiliates are strongly encouraged. Submit your preliminary proposals here.

One week remaining for eyeglasses collection

The Sustainability Office’s eyeglasses collection event is ongoing through July 2. Donate your no-longer-needed eyeglasses to those in need by mail, by drop-off, or by using your department’s collection box, if applicable.

Go Green

More than 20,000 pounds of material donated during student move-out

Efforts from Move-Out Cleanout resulted in the collection of 17,111 pounds of clothing, donated to Goodwill and Edison Tech High School; 1,862 pounds of food, which went to the University’s food pantry, Mt. Hope Family Center, and Open Door Mission; and 67 pounds of other items, which went back to members of the University or Greater Rochester communities. The student organization Grassroots collected an estimated 1,000 pounds of other items at their Dump and Run event, which will be given to incoming students in the fall.
