Awards and honors |
|
|
|
We spotlight the scholarly and service contributions of University community members to their fields. If you have news to share about a faculty or staff member, student, or department/unit that has recently achieved a significant professional accomplishment or received a prestigious national or international honor, please let us know so we can consider it for a future listing. Recent award recipients include:
- Louis “Sandy” Constine, the Philip Rubin Professor of Radiation Oncology, received the 2026 Pediatric Oncology Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
- James Druckman, the Martin Brewer Anderson Professor of Political Science, has been elected the American Academy of Political and Social Science’s 2026 Harold Lasswell Fellow.
- Elaine Hill, Dean’s Professor in the Department of Environmental Medicine & Public Health Sciences, was selected for the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine fellowship.
- Leaders in pulmonary medicine and respiratory science were recognized with awards from the American Thoracic Society. M. Patricia Rivera, chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine, received the Elizabeth A. Rich, MD, Award; Augusto Litonjua, director of pediatric pulmonology, received the John M. Peters Award; and Gloria Pryhuber, a professor of neonatology, received a Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishment.
- P. Emile Rossouw, a professor of dentistry and chair and program director of Eastman Institute for Oral Health’s Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, will serve as chair of the American Board of Orthodontics’ executive committee.
- J. Albert Uy, Dean’s Professor of Biology and chair of the Department of Biology, has been awarded the 2026 Elliott Coues Award from the American Ornithological Society.

Blood, Sweat & Tears’s musical cocktail of symphonic arrangements blended with horns and pop was met with particular contempt by Rolling Stone magazine, which tended to look askance at anything but unadulterated rock, says John Covach, director of the Institute for Popular Music, the Arthur Satz Professor of the Humanities in the School of Arts & Sciences, and professor of theory at the Eastman School of Music.
