Vincent Russello, Outpatient Access Representative |
Each week, we spotlight a faculty or staff member who has been recognized as a UR Star. Vincent Russello, an outpatient access representative, was recognized for demonstrating compassion.
“A patient with dementia and his wife, who is speech and hearing impaired, attended a challenging appointment together. Their situation escalated at checkout when their interpreter left, and the wife realized she had locked her keys in the car. With an expired AAA card, a restless husband, and no cell phone, she felt completely defeated and was on the verge of tears. Despite the flow of other patients, Vince remained incredibly calm and reassuring. He stepped in to help by calling the family (with no answer), reaching out to community resources, contacting the non-emergency police line, and offering to coordinate a tow truck or locksmith. Vince refused to give up. His positive and grounding presence completely de-escalated the woman’s frustration. This calm moment allowed her to take a clear, second look inside her purse, where she finally discovered her keys. The look of relief and appreciation on her face was priceless. Vince, thank you for your outstanding dedication and for being such a wonderful human being!”
