As your life evolves, so do the needs of the people counting on you. Life insurance can help protect the people who depend on you by replacing lost income, covering everyday expenses, and helping pay off debts. During Open Enrollment, you can enroll for one times your annual salary or increase your existing coverage by one times your annual salary without answering health questions, up to a total of six times your salary or $1,000,000. Visit Securian’s educational microsite for more information about your Group Universal Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment program.

The origin of the Yellowjackets |
This week marks 100 years of URochester’s teams being called the Yellowjackets. After a football game against Buffalo on October 30, 1926, student reporter Howard Garnish ’27 wrote in The Campus that a Buffalo player had dubbed the varsity team “Yellow Jackets,” “not because of their equipment, but rather their sting.” The name stuck: Garnish cheered, “Go to it, you Yellow Jackets!” in the next week’s issue, and Rochester Review began using the term in the December 1926-January 1927 issue.

What a hockey goalie can teach you about golf |
Yahoo! Sports/Golf Digest, October 27
Jeremy Jamieson, a professor of psychology who specializes in stress research, says that in sports like hockey or golf, athletes develop a specific “proceduralized motion” that can break down when focusing too much attention on one part.
“This is why people do things a long time, to sort of get that sort of repetitive knowledge about procedural movement, but thinking can degrade that,” Jamieson says. “Even with the best intentions of trying to execute something well, it can actually lead to some negative outcomes.”

Jennifer Pierson, Senior Immigration Advisor |
Each week, we spotlight a faculty or staff member who has been recognized as a UR Star. Jennifer Pierson was recognized for demonstrating Meliora.
“I wanted to take a moment to share my very positive experience working with Jennifer Pierson. This was my first time contacting the ISO for assistance, and I was fortunate that Jennifer was the person who responded to my inquiry. Throughout the process, Jennifer has been exceptionally responsive, patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. She has taken the time to answer my questions thoroughly, explain the relevant processes clearly, and make sure I understood what was needed at each step. Her professionalism and willingness to help have made what was an unfamiliar process for me considerably easier to navigate. Jennifer has been a pleasure to work with and is an excellent representative of both the ISO and the University.”
