Sarah C. Mangelsdorf became the University\u2019s 11th president on July 1, 2019. As president, she holds the title of G. Robert Witmer, Jr. University Professor.<\/p>\n

She is also a full professor in the Department of Psychology.<\/p>\n

For most editorial purposes, on first reference, refer to her as University President Sarah Mangelsdorf. As in the case with faculty members, on subsequent references, use her surname without an honorific title.<\/p>\n

University President Sarah Mangelsdorf opened the session with introductory remarks. . . . In her talk, Mangelsdorf said . . . .<\/em><\/p>\n

References such as \u201cPresident Mangelsdorf\u201d may be used in referring to her, particularly in quoted materials, depending on the context, tone, and purpose in using the honorific.<\/p>\n

Do not use abbreviations when referring to the president\u2019s title.<\/p>\n

In formal settings such as programs for institutional events, legal documents, institutional and academic memoranda, and other materials in which the president is formally representing the institution, use her complete name, including middle initial. The full title of the Witmer Professorship should also be cited in such uses.<\/p>\n
