{"id":20052,"date":"2020-04-17T13:47:29","date_gmt":"2020-04-17T17:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/coronavirus-update\/?p=20052"},"modified":"2022-02-10T14:01:53","modified_gmt":"2022-02-10T19:01:53","slug":"new-urmc-coronavirus-research-examines-immune-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/coronavirus-update\/new-urmc-coronavirus-research-examines-immune-response\/","title":{"rendered":"New URMC coronavirus research examines immune response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/covid-19-observational-research-study.aspx\">launching a new study<\/a>\u00a0to understand how the body\u2019s immune system responds to COVID-19, including if and when a person could be re-infected with the virus and whether some people have pre-existing immunity.\u00a0The findings could have significant implications for the public health response to the pandemic, the development of COVID-19 vaccines, and decisions related to re-opening the economy and society.<\/p>\n<p>The new coronavirus research is being led by URMC&#8217;s David Topham, Angela Branche, and Ann Falsey under the University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/nyice.aspx\">New York Influenza Center of Excellence<\/a> (NYICE), one of the five international centers in the Centers of Excellence in Influenza Research and Surveillance network.
