Starting July 29, anyone without a University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) identification badge must enter the 601 Elmwood\/Crittenden campus through one of four designated entrances (view map<\/a>) where they will undergo a health screening process before proceeding into the Medical Center facility.<\/p>\n

URMC faculty, staff, postdocs, and students will continue to have swipe-in access at other entrances of the Medical Center. Vendors, contractors, volunteers, and many other University badge holders will no longer have swipe-in access to the facility.<\/p>\n

These changes will help URMC comply with government regulations that require all persons entering the hospital campus to have completed symptom screening specific to the COVID-19 pandemic. The restrictions apply to the very east end of the campus starting on East Drive (where the hospitals are) through the Delmonte Neuro-Medicine Institute on Kendrick Road. The School of Nursing and Saunders Research Building will not be affected.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are making this change to ensure that every person entering the 601 Elmwood Avenue and Crittenden Blvd Campus has completed symptom screening,\u201d says Kathy Parrinello, executive vice president and COO of Strong Memorial Hospital. \u201cURMC faculty, staff, and students complete symptom screening online with Dr. Chat Bot<\/a> prior to coming to work and managers are able to verify for all team members that this has been completed. Others will complete the symptom screening at designated entrances where we have staff ready to help them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swipe access for students, postdocs, and employees with River Campus ID badges will be allowed at the main entrance of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the rear entrance near Flaum Atrium adjacent to the Finger Lakes Caf\u00e9, and the entrance adjacent to the Class of 1962 auditorium. This will provide convenient access for students and postdocs who conduct research at the Medical Center and will also allow all University employees access to the Employee Pharmacy (see more details below).<\/p>\n

\u201cUR students, postdocs and employees who enter through these SMD entrances, however, must report to one of the main entrances if they travel into the hospital past the Red\/Green elevator bay,\u201d Parrinello says. \u201cThat way we can ensure they are screened.\u201d<\/p>\n
