Introducing ‘The Commons'

Wilson Commons’ newly renovated food court—christened the Commons—opened on Monday, Aug. 23, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and free samples.

The building was closed all summer for the renovation, which doubled the food court area, formerly known as The Pit. The entire area was redesigned, bringing all food preparation areas to the front, in view of customers. New dining choices, Panda Express (Asian) and Zoca (Mexican), have been added to the Commons, joining Pizza Pi, the Common Grill, and A New Leaf.

Enhancements also were made to some of the existing stations. A 6,000-pound deck oven, like those found in many pizzerias, has been added at Pizza Pi, and the Common Grill now features a broiler in addition to the existing flattop grill. In addition, Blimpie has moved to the Hive, which also received a new TV, new lightning, and a new ceiling over the summer.

Cam Schauf, director of dining services and auxiliary operations, says the redesign allows for better workflow among staff and improves traffic flow during peak dining periods.
