Library’s Mary Huth honored at Susan B. Anthony Legacy Dinner

Mary Huth

Mary Huth (right), former assistant director of the Department of Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation, shares a laugh with award-winning former ABC News correspondent Lynn Sherr (left) during the Susan B. Anthony Legacy Dinner, sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony Center for Women’s Leadership.

Huth was awarded the 2011 Susan B. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedication to furthering the study of women’s history. During Huth’s 44-year career at the University, her research assistance was acknowledged in more than 50 major works.

While researching her book, Failure Is Impossible: Susan B. Anthony in Her Own Words, Sherr worked with Huth—then a manuscript librarian and American women’s history specialist in Rush Rhees Library—to acquire a microfilm collection of more than 14,000 texts and manuscripts from Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. “History is what we have to build on,” Sherr said during her keynote address honoring Huth. “This is something that Mary Huth understands.” Huth retired last year. She is an emeritus member of the Susan B. Anthony House board of trustees.

Several students also were honored at the dinner: Melika Butcher ’12, Vicky Baudin ’12, Maya Dukmasova ’11, Bridget Lenkiewicz ’11, Hilary Wermers ’13, and Lauren Yu (Take 5)
