Tom McInerny, associate chair for clinical affairs in the Department of Pediatrics, was named the next president-elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The AAP is the nation’s largest pediatric organization, with a membership of 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists.
Sandra Sabatka, a social worker at the Wilmot Cancer Center’s Comprehensive Breast Care Center, is the recipient of the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester’s 2011 Laurie Pask Heart & Hands Award. Sabatka was recognized for her dedication to helping people find appropriate resources to help them deal with their cancer treatments and the other facets of life that it may impact.
John Elfar, assistant professor of orthopaedics, was awarded the North American Traveling Fellowship by the American Orthopaedic Association, an honor considered to be one of the most exclusive in the field of orthopaedic surgery. The Traveling Fellowship is awarded to young surgeons with great academic potential for national and international leadership.
Alumnus William Calnon ’79M (Pdc), who completed a general practice residency at what is now the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, has been installed as president of the American Dental Association, the nation’s largest dental association representing more than 156,000 dentists. Calnon is also president of the Eastman Dental Center Foundation Board.
