University welcomes new heads of Memorial Art Gallery, Advancement

The University introduced new leaders of two prominent units this summer.

Jonathan BinstockJonathan Binstock has been named the Mary W. and Donald R. Clark Director of the Memorial Art Gallery.

Binstock was most recently a senior vice president and senior advisor in modern and contemporary art for Citi Private Bank’s Art Advisory and Finance group in New York City.

His career includes appointments in several American museums, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He succeeds Grant Holcomb, who retired this summer after nearly 29 years in the position.

Thomas FarrellThomas Farrell ’88, ’94W (MS) will oversee the University’s Advancement Office when he begins his tenure as the James D. Thompson Chief Advancement Officer in November.

Farrell, who began his advancement career at Rochester in 1990 as a class campaign fundraiser, has most recently been the chief development officer at the University of Illinois.

He has more than 20 years’ experience in university development, including positions at the University of Buffalo, Dartmouth College, and the University of Pennsylvania.

He succeeds James Osterholt, the office’s interim head since September 2013.
