Stacey FisherStacey Fisher, assistant director for Wilson Commons Student Activities, was awarded the Joseph H. Benedict Award by the Association of College Unions International, an international organization for university union and student activities professionals. The award honors outstanding leadership, volunteer service, and activism.

Matt MenderMatt Mender ’16 of Glens Falls, N.Y., was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Football Team. The defensive tackle was named to the Second Team.

He is Rochester’s first Academic All-American in football since 2007, when Andrew Rape was selected. A total of 10 men have earned 16 Academic All-America honors for Rochester on the gridiron.

Qiang Lin, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering and of optics, has been named the first Leonard Mandel Faculty Fellow. The award, which includes a two-year, $25,000 stipend, recognizes exceptional achievement by a junior faculty member in coherence and quantum optics. It is given in honor of the late Leonard Mandel, a longtime University physicist and pioneer of quantum optics.

A paper on “First results from the LUX dark matter experiment at the Sanford Underground Research Facility” by the LUX collaboration is the second most cited paper in high energy physics for 2014, according to INSPIRE, a high-energy physics literature database. Rochester coauthors include Frank Wolfs, professor of physics; visiting scientist Wojtek Skulski; and graduate students Eryk Druszkiewicz and Mongkol Moongweluwan.
