Historic economic development award celebrated

governmental figures and Joel Seligman hold a trophy

The Finger Lakes region has been awarded $500 million for economic development projects as part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Upstate Revitalization Initiative competition. University President and CEO Joel Seligman and Wegmans Food Markets CEO Danny Wegman, cochairs of the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council, thanked Cuomo and state legislators for supporting the council’s plan, which focuses on three strategic industry sectors—optics, photonics, and imaging; agriculture and food processing; and next-generation manufacturing and technology. “We cannot overstate our enthusiasm at this historic opportunity to transform our region’s economy,” Seligman and Wegman said in a joint statement.
