Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon

Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, professor of composition at the Eastman School of Music, was one of four American composers who recently received an Arts and Letters Award in Music from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The awards, announced on March 9, honor “outstanding artistic achievement by a composer who has arrived at his or her own voice.” Each composer will receive a $10,000 award, plus an additional $10,000 toward the recording of one work.

Steven Feldon, chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, will be honored by the Association for Blind and Visually Impaired during its 2016 Visionary Gala: Sea Great Things on Saturday, April 9. A neuro-ophthalmologist and orbital surgeon, Feldon is founding director of the David and Ilene Flaum Eye Institute. He has overseen the growth of the department from a faculty of five clinicians and three basic scientists to its current complement of 23 clinicians and eight basic scientists. Over the last decade, the number of National Institutes of Health grants has risen to 10, and there are now four clinical care locations in Rochester and Geneva.

Sam Borst-Smith Sam Borst-Smith ’17 won State Farm’s “Assist of the Year” contest for his intentionally missed free throw that turned into a game-winning shot in overtime against the University of Chicago. The winner was determined by online voting. Borst-Smith was invited to attended the 2016 Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships on March 31 in Houston; the video of his assist was featured during the event.
