Strategic Incentive Fund Program Application
The University of Rochester’s Office of Equity & Inclusion’s Strategic Incentive Fund Program (SIFP) is committed to establishing and maintaining equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in faculty and senior administration. The Office of Equity and Inclusion has two programs under the SIFP in which temporary financial support for the academy (faculty) and research and senior administration can be used as part of recruitment and retention efforts. The funds can help defray expenses for up to three years and are focused on schools/departments with limited financial resources.
Faculty
The SIFP is designed to support the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty in the academy to create and promote a faculty learning community to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion at the University of Rochester. The SIFP will be awarded to faculty, and faculty fellows whose teaching, learning, and research are focused on advancing EDI.
Senior Administration
The SIFP for senior administration is designed to support the recruitment and retention of underrepresented administrators at the University of Rochester. The SIFP will be awarded to senior administrators at the administrative unit level whose work will support diversifying leadership to bridge compositional diversity at the decision-making levels as well as to advance specific EDI efforts.
The application process will include a review of the following:
- Current, past, and future contributions to EDI
- School/departments delineated plan to provide additional monetary or non-monetary supports to the faculty member/senior administrator to increase retention of underrepresented faculty/staff across the campus
- Educational or workforce effectiveness to create an equitable, diverse, and/or inclusive space

- Enhance recruitment & retention of diverse faculty, students, and staff
- Cultivate a fair and just climate, culture, and community
- Advance the University of Rochester mission through an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens
- Community engagement for racial and social justice
Request for Time-Limited Financial Support
The University of Rochester’s Office of Equity & Inclusion focuses on competitive faculty recruitment in the academy from underrepresented minority groups (URM) for open positions to promote faculty diversity. The Strategic Incentive Fund builds on the University’s new initiative of cluster hires programs to encourage additional hiring of teaching and research faculty from underrepresented groups. Also, the SIFP is designed to support the five institutional priorities to recruit and retain administrators and faculty.
The Strategic Incentive Fund Program will provide a rotating fund to support cost-sharing through the Office of Equity and Inclusion for recruiting and retaining underrepresented faculty, researchers, faculty fellows, and administrators across all schools, colleges, and administrative units with minimal financial resources, including those that are not designated as part of a cluster hire.
The University of Rochester has five institutional priorities for EDI:
- Develop and sustain an infrastructure for diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Enhance recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, students, and staff
- Cultivate a fair and just climate, culture, and community
- Advance the University of Rochester’s mission through an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens
- Community engagement for racial and social justice
