Diversity and Inclusion Committee
The purpose of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, founded in fall 2006, is to bring together members of the University Community who are engaged in diversity outreach initiatives. The committee meets monthly to discuss, communicate and create collaborations in ongoing and upcoming initiatives and events that support the goal of enhancing the environment for diversity, inclusion and equity across the University.
As events, occurrences, and incidents occur at the University or Greater Rochester community, state-wide or national level, the committee will serve as a resource for organizing opportunities for advocacy for those members who choose to participate in this way. At the same time, as in all Diversity and Inclusion Committee efforts, participation in the committee is voluntary and individuals have a choice to participate on the committee or in advocacy (as they feel comfortable and as they feel is appropriate for their role) at the University.
Committee members are actively involved in the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity’s efforts to produce Diversity Celebration posters, which provide resources and organizational support to annual diversity and inclusion programs of interest to students, faculty, and staff. We now organize posters around Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, LGBTQI Awareness Month, Asian Heritage Month, and Native American History Month.
