Explore additional details about <a href=\"#requirements\">financial aid application requirements<\/a> and eligibility below.","background_color":"#ffffff","width":"width-medium"},{"acf_fc_layout":"text","anchor":"","css_class":"pt-0 title-line t-navy t-below","title":"<h2>Financial aid eligibility while studying abroad<\/h2>","content":"<h3>Partner programs<\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>If you currently receive financial aid, you can still get it while studying abroad.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>If the cost of your program is lower than studying at URochester, your need-based aid will go down accordingly but merit awards won\u2019t change.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><a class=\"u-link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/enrollment.rochester.edu\/financial-aid\/contact\/\">Talk to your financial aid counselor<\/a> to understand how this applies to you.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3>Non-partner programs<\/h3>\r\nIf you decide to study abroad with a program that isn\u2019t partnered with us, you won\u2019t get the same financial help. This means you <strong>won\u2019t be eligible for any financial aid from the University of Rochester.<\/strong> A small number of study abroad programs have their own financial aid available, so you can ask them for more information.\r\n\r\nIt\u2019s really important to <a class=\"u-link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/enrollment.rochester.edu\/financial-aid\/contact\/\">talk with your financial aid counselor<\/a> before you go so you can figure out what types of aid you can get while you\u2019re abroad\u2014and to make sure you can continue to get aid when you return.\r\n<h4>Federal grants and loans<\/h4>\r\nFederal Direct Loans and Federal Pell Grants can be used if you\u2019re on a program not sponsored by URochester, but you need to complete an agreement with us first. The <a class=\"u-link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/financial-aid\/\">Financial Aid Office<\/a> needs to confirm if the program sponsor is eligible. If you\u2019re from New York State, you might be able to use TAP awards\u2014but only if the program is sponsored by a New York college or university.\r\n\r\nTo get these federal and\/or NYS funds (or a Parent PLUS or alternative loan(s)) for the semester you\u2019re abroad, you have to fill out a consortium\/contractual agreement. You can get it from the <a class=\"u-link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/financial-aid\/\">Financial Aid Office<\/a> website. It\u2019s important not to wait on this requirement. The consortium\/contractual agreement involves multiple steps and requires several signatures. Select students will also be notified by email from the Financial Aid Office and the College Board to provide institutional forms and relevant tax information to the College Board's IDOC program before the March 15 deadline.
