WHY SOME THRIVE: THE SCIENCE OF RESILIENCE AND THE POWER OF PREVENTION

featuring

Jennie Noll, PhD
Executive Director, Mt. Hope Family Center
Professor, Department of Psychology

12:00 - 12:45 p.m. (ET)

In every community, there are stories that make us pause and wonder: Why do some individuals thrive despite early adversity while others struggle under similar circumstances? During this virtual program, Dr. Jennie Noll will share what research is revealing about stress, resilience, and the forces that influence lifelong health. Grounding her work in real-world experience, she will examine how early life experiences influence development — and how thoughtful prevention, intervention, and support can foster strength, recovery, and opportunity over time.

To help set the stage, we encourage you to preview this short video on resilience and human potential.

The program will also spotlight the University of Rochester’s transdisciplinary approach to advancing resilience research, rooted in the longstanding work of the Mt. Hope Family Center and expanded through the University of Rochester Resilience Research Center (UR³C). By uniting experts across biological, developmental, clinical, and community-based fields, this collaborative effort deepens our understanding of how resilience emerges — and how we can create conditions that help more individuals and families lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Attendees will be invited to participate in a live question-and-answer session following the presentation, offering an opportunity to engage more deeply with the ideas shaping this important work.
