Effective and consistent system title alignment helps us create a common language for staff and leaders to talk about job roles identify potential opportunities for growth. It also acts as a basis for people external to the University to find and understand our job openings and makes it easier for them to identify opportunities that align with their skills and experience.<\/p>\n<h2>How Business Titles Differ from System Titles<\/h2>\n<p>Business titles provide an enhanced level of definition to a position\u2019s assigned system job title. They can be used in email signatures, the Outlook active directory, communications, department websites, ID badges, job postings, and business cards.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about the University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/human-resources\/professional-success\/career-development\/#staff-titling\">Staff Titling Guidelines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Business Title Request Process<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In instances where a business title may be warranted, the following process is enacted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Step 1: Staff member request<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Staff member raises the request to their manager.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Step 2: Manager review<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>If after reviewing the Titling Guidelines the manager believes the request meets the criteria, they submit a Business Title Request through Workday, which is routed through the Business Partner for review\/approval.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Step 3: Business Partner Review<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>If the Business Partner believes the business title request meets the Titling Guidelines criteria, the request will be approved in Workday and the business title will automatically update.
