{"id":16976,"date":"2020-01-16T10:03:52","date_gmt":"2020-01-16T15:03:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/human-resources\/?page_id=16976"},"modified":"2026-01-14T15:52:39","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T20:52:39","slug":"paid-family-leave-pfl","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/human-resources\/benefits\/leave-disability\/paid-family-leave-pfl\/","title":{"rendered":"Paid Family Leave (PFL)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"large-4 columns\">\n<p>Paid Family Leave (PFL) lets eligible New York State employees take paid time off for qualifying reasons, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bond with a child during the first 12 months following the birth, adopted, or foster placement of the child<\/li>\n<li>Care for a family member with a serious health condition (spouse\/domestic partner, child, parent (in-laws and step), grandparent, siblings, and grandchild and in loco parentis relationships<\/li>\n<li>Assist a family member called to active military service (spouse\/domestic partner, child, parent)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Explore the policy<\/h2>\n<p>For full details, reference the Paid Family Leave policy on the University&#8217;s policies website.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"u-link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/policies\/policy\/paid-family-leave\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">View full policy<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>How to apply for Paid Family Leave<\/h2>\n<p>University of Rochester employees looking to open a PFL claim must call Hartford, our PFL insurance carrier, at\u00a0<a href=\"tel:8665483101\"><strong>(866) 548-3101<\/strong><\/a>. Hartford will then explain the process and provide an acknowledgment letter, along with any applicable certification forms.<\/p>\n<p>An employee is responsible for notifying the University that they intend to apply for PFL benefits. The Employer portion of the Request for Paid Family Leave Form PFL-1 does not need to be completed. Leave Administration will provide the AWW and ADW via a weekly system file feed directly to the Hartford. For any type of foreseeable PFL, an employee must provide no sooner than 30 days\u2019 notice. Otherwise, the employee must give notice as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<h2>Supplemental Pay Leave Request<\/h2>\n<p>Effective December 15, 2024, in myURHR UKG employees leave for Short-term Disability (STD), Workers Compensation (WC), or Paid Family Leave (PFL) per New York State requirements will need to request in writing to use any accrued time to supplement their leave where full pay is not offered.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a new automated accruals payments process will determine the order in which accruals for time will be paid. Timekeepers should not manually add supplementation codes to leaves. Supplementation is already built into the leave code if the employee opts in by completing the required form<\/p>\n<p>Accruals for paid time to supplement PFL will be paid in the following order when requested via an opt-in form by employees:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Vacation<\/li>\n<li>Paid Time Off or Sick<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a class=\"button button--blue\"
