While it can feel very uncomfortable, it doesn\u2019t have to keep us from taking care of ourselves and one another, said Craig Rooney, PhD, URMC\u2019s chief wellbeing officer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"normal\">\u201cWhether you\u2019re feeling stressed or uncertain as a result of national and world events, the long winter, work, or family life, some simple, common-sense steps may help you feel better,\u201d Rooney said. \u201cAnd if you\u2019re a clinician, they may help your patients, too.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"normal\">It starts with acknowledging the distress you feel and giving yourself permission to feel it. Numerous studies show links between media overload and stress, for example. And even a few minutes of exercise a day\u2014from a five-minute stretch to a walk around the block\u2014has been shown to be helpful.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"normal\">\u201cWe\u2019re not suggesting that everyone has to make huge changes in their lives,\u201d Rooney said. \u201cAnyone \u2014 URMC faculty and staff and the patients we serve \u2014 can benefit from even the smallest steps.
